Explorer Liora Windwhisper

Liora Windwhisper
Liora Windwhisper's published notes on ecosystem documentation are cited in three of the major academic institutions across Irna and Shoing. She is not aware of this, because she has not been to either city in four years and has been spending the time in places that have better specimens and worse amenities.
Liora is a wood elf, standing at 5'6" with long auburn hair that she mostly keeps out of the way. Her skin is a soft shade of olive, and her almond-shaped eyes are a vivid green — the kind that makes people think of spring leaves, which she finds accurate and only slightly annoying as a description. Her robes are woven from plant fiber and natural material, and change color with the seasons in a way that is partly practical and partly an expression of her relationship with the living world. Around her wrist, a bracelet of intertwined living vines that blooms with small flowers when she is using her abilities — a feature she has had since childhood and no longer notices.
She is gentle and observant, with the particular quality of being fully present in whatever environment she is in. She is passionate about ecological systems and the documentation of them — not in an abstract way, but in the sense that she finds genuine joy in understanding how things work together, and finds it upsetting when those systems are disrupted carelessly. She can become fiercely protective when the natural world is threatened. She does not raise her voice in these moments. She becomes very precise.
Her partnership with Jacob is built on mutual respect and complementary skills — he tracks and navigates, she identifies and interprets, and between them they cover terrain that neither could document alone. They have been working together long enough that they communicate in a shorthand that outside observers occasionally find difficult to follow. She would describe it as efficient. He would describe it the same way.
She meditates each dawn. She collects small samples — plant matter, soils, water — in vials she keeps organized with a care that other travelers find surprising for someone who spends most of her time in the field. She whispers to plants and animals as a matter of habit, not as ritual — she believes everything has something to communicate, and she has been right about this often enough that she sees no reason to stop.
